Official Community Plan

Bylaw No. 584, 2012

An Official Community Plan (OCP) is a municipal bylaw that defines policies for land use and development. The purpose of the OCP is to guide the physical development of the community by establishing goals for long term growth. Ultimately, these goals are aimed at meeting the long term needs of current and future residents, as well as the businesses that serve them.

District Council, District staff, developers and professionals (architects, engineers, planners, landscape architects, etc.) use the OCP to understand what the community wants as it relates to the delivery of housing and other land uses (types, character), infrastructure and amenities. They also use the OCP to understand which areas are suitable for development and which are not (environmentally sensitive areas, steep slopes, hazardous areas, etc.). The public can use the OCP to gain a better understanding of local issues and how they plan to be addressed or what changes may happen in their neighbourhood.

If you’re considering a development project of any sort it is important that you review the OCP and understand the community’s goals before you move forward.
